There are a number of poor people throughout the world and if you are one of the people that is more fortunate, it's natural to want to find ways that you can help poor people, especially during the holidays. You can choose to help people directly through your volunteer efforts or you can contribute to organizations that find help for the poor. Assess your personal situation and available resources to find the best way for you to help those that are less fortunate.
Research organizations to see how much of your money helps the poor. All organizations need to use some of the financial donations that they receive to cover overhead costs.
If you have more money than time, it makes sense to make a financial contribution to non-profit organizations that help poor people. You can find organizations that help all kinds of people--from the people in your neighborhood to people in countries around the world.
Donate goods that poor people need. When you donate goods, such as Food to a “Food Bank” or Toys to the “Toys for Tots program”, you can be sure that your full contribution goes to help poor people.
You don't have any money to spare; you can help the poor through volunteering. Find an organization that needs manpower. If you find an organization that fits with your interests, you'll be more likely to stick with it.
Train people for a new career. If you have specialized skills, take the time to train people that may be interested in the same career. For example Basic computer skills, open Free Tuition center for poor children etc.
